EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Leeds United ‘close’ to signing 33-year-old striker after beating Nottingham Forest and West Ham

Leeds United’s pursuit of Igor Paixao from Feyenoord ultimately fell short, despite their best efforts. The Premier League newcomers had made a bid in the region of €30m (£26.2m) earlier in the week, which was later increased to over €32m, but it seems Marseille’s convincing offer led to Paixao’s decision to join the French side.

Now, Leeds United is reportedly eyeing Liverpool’s Ben Doak as a potential loan signing. Doak, a 20-year-old Scottish winger, has been making waves with his impressive performances. Scottish pundit Greg Robertson described him as “raw pace” and “really technically gifted,” adding that he’s a player of enormous potential.

Doak’s stats are certainly impressive, with 10 goal involvements (3G, 7A) in just 24 appearances for Middlesbrough during his loan spell last season. As a predominantly right-sided winger, he could be an excellent fit for Leeds United, who currently lack a natural right-sided player in their four-man wide options.

Why Ben Doak could be a good fit for Leeds United:

Pace and technical ability: Doak’s raw pace and technical skills could provide a much-needed boost to Leeds United’s attack.

Right-sided winger: Doak’s preferred position aligns with Leeds United’s needs, as they currently have only one natural right-sided player, Dan James.

Loan signing: A loan deal would allow Leeds United to assess Doak’s abilities without committing to a permanent transfer, which could be beneficial given the player’s relatively limited experience in the top flight.

Other potential wingers Leeds United could consider.

Dilane Bakwa: A 22-year-old winger who could be a better fit for Leeds United than Paixao, given his natural right-sided preference.

Bilal El Khannouss: Another winger who has been linked to Leeds United, offering an alternative option for the club.

Oscar Bobb: A 22-year-old Manchester City winger who could be available for loan if he doesn’t get regular first-team minutes.

Wilson Odobert: A 20-year-old Tottenham Hotspur winger who might be looking for more playing time.

Luis Guilherme: A 19-year-old West Ham United winger who could be a promising prospect.

Romain Esse: A 20-year-old Crystal Palace winger who might be available for loan.

Tyrique George: A 19-year-old Chelsea winger who could be another option for Leeds United.

Leeds United’s manager, Daniel Farke, is keen on strengthening his squad, particularly in attack. With Paixao’s transfer now seemingly off the table, the club will need to explore other options to bolster their attacking lineup. Ben Doak’s potential loan signing could be a shrewd move, given his impressive stats and pace. However, it’s essential for Leeds United to carefully evaluate the risks and benefits of signing a young player with limited top-flight experience.
