Rangers swoop in for another Brighton star as Leeds’ transfer move collapses

Recent transfer news suggests Rangers are actively pursuing new players as the transfer window draws to a close. Their efforts have been particularly focused on a deal for a Brighton player, while a potential move for a Leeds United star appears to have fallen through.
Rangers are reportedly in talks with Brighton for the permanent signing of winger Youssef Chermiti. The 20-year-old, who has previously been on loan at various clubs, including a spell with Brighton, is seen as a player who can fill the void left by the recent departure of another attacker. This move would represent a significant investment for Rangers, with reports suggesting a fee of around £15 million, although the club are attempting to negotiate a lower figure. This potential transfer comes after the club’s successful loan of Abdallah Sima from Brighton in the 2023/2024 season, which saw the Senegal international score 16 goals for the Ibrox side.
In contrast, Rangers’ pursuit of a goalkeeper from Leeds United, Illan Meslier, has reportedly hit a snag. The French goalkeeper, who has fallen out of favor at Elland Road, was a target for Rangers as they sought to add competition for their current No. 1. However, with other clubs, including Valencia and Lorient, also interested and with a more immediate need for a starting goalkeeper, it is believed that Meslier is now prioritizing a move elsewhere. This leaves Rangers to explore other options as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline. In contrast, Rangers’ pursuit of a goalkeeper from Leeds United, Illan Meslier, has reportedly hit a snag.
