Reason why Liverpool Mexican transfer “collapsed”
A club overhaul was expected as Jürgen Klopp announced his departure following almost a decade at Liverpool. Later it was announced that Arne Slot will replace the German manager at Anfield.
Under Slot, The Reds are doing well as they go top of the table into the international break. Liverpool will face Chelsea after the end of the October international break.
Amidst the overhaul, the English giants were linked with a plethora of players. Among them was the young Mexican winger César Huerta.
Following a failed transfer, Federico Chiesa was bought in to play backup for Mohamed Salah. This was a quick business for Liverpool as the deal fell through at the later stages of the transfer.
One of the reasons cited for the failure seems to be Liverpool’s inability to find a temporary club for the Mexican. Huerta was meant to join Liverpool and then would be sent on loan to Sunderland.
This was to ensure that the 20-year-old gains English football experience before plying his trade in the English top flight. However, the deal didn’t go through as The Reds reportedly failed to find suitors for a temporary home.
Chiesa became the backup plan for Liverpool and with three appearances, the Italian winger has already registered an assist with the club.
According to ESPN Mexico, the plan didn’t sit well with César Huerta. The winger told the outlet that he is focused on the current challenges he faces with Pumas.
The Mexican wasn’t probably happy with The Reds’ plans. He probably took the loan move in a wrong way as it might’ve displayed a sense of hesitance in the winger’s eyes.
With Pumas we fight for the first place. There will be a lot of spotlight… to seek to concentrate myself here first with a title and in the long run the achievements will open doors for me. But first I think of Pumas, an institution that requires that concentration and one has to live up to it.

- Huerta has moved on with his focus completely with UNAM right now. Pumas stand sixth in Liga MX and as César mentioned, both he and the club are focused on the title right now.
