- Dan Friedkin told ‘Most important’ Everton decision ahead of takeover
Everton appointing a sporting director will be the “most important” decision for Dan Friedkin, Ian Croll says.
The Reach journalist has urged The Friedkin Group to focus on the boardroom infrastructure before appointing a new manager — with the new owners mooted to possibly sack Sean Dyche once their takeover is complete [Liverpool Echo, 29 November].
It has been suggested that TFG could complete their acquisition of the Blues in the coming days [Alan Myers, 9 December].
On the Royal Blue podcast [10 December], Croll said: “The most important decision the Friedkins need to make is who is the sporting director or director of football.
“For me, that decision is more important than who the next manager is going to be. The infrastructure behind the club is more important than who could be the head coach.
If you bring in a manager who’s successful, then at least we would have the infrastructure… like Brighton have done. They’ve lost a couple of managers over the years, but they manage to just replace them. The director of football is the most important decision the Friedkins are ever going to make.”
Farhad Moshiri’s reign has been accompanied by uncertainty and bad decisions, with the British-Iranian businessman failing to get the Toffees back to competing with the big boys.
