What Amanda Staveley keeps telling people privately about investing in Tottenham
Amanda Staveley is looking to get back into football after leaving Newcastle United.
Staveley left Newcastle before the start of this season, but she isn’t done with her business in the Premier League just yet.
Staveley was recently spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and there have been lots of rumours that Staveley is looking to invest in Spurs.
Speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, Matt Slater has shared an update on the former Newcastle boss and her interest in Spurs.
According to Slater, Staveley isn’t being private about her interest in Tottenham, and apparently she’s telling numerous people within the game that she has put together a fund capable of investing in Spurs.
However, some of Slater’s sources have refuted that claim from Staveley.
What Amanda Staveley is telling people about Tottenham
Slater shared what he’s been hearing about Staveley from people within football.
The journalist claimed that Staveley is telling people she wants to invest in Spurs, and she has the backing to do so.
“She is certainly out there and she’s not being particularly private about it. Looking to raise more money for her next football venture and that is Spurs,” Slater said.
“Now, none of that is in dispute. She’s talking to everybody. Talking to Qataris, as I said, Saudis, North Americans.
“She’s trying to put together a fund. She’s running around telling people she has that fund. I again speak to people in the industry all the time who say that’s not quite true.
“She might have some expressions of interest, but it will be very much a sort of kind of, well, let’s see who else you get. Let’s see what sort of price you get out of Daniel. Let’s see where we go with this.”
What Staveley has publicly said about investing in another club
Staveley left Newcastle earlier this year, but she clearly feels like she has some unfinished business in football.
Indeed, Staveley admitted that she could invest in another club after leaving Newcastle.
“My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to,” She said.
“Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.
“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”
Staveley clearly has the connections to raise the money and broker these types of deals, and who knows? Perhaps she could be the key to finally getting Qatari investment at Tottenham, after all, Daniel Levy and Nasser-Al-Khelaifi have been close over the years.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as Spurs look to potentially look to move into a new era.
