Unai Emery faces an uphill struggle this week if he hopes to have several key players return from injury ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League visit to Fulham

REAston Villa arrive into a new week looking forward to the return of the Premier League, but know they face multiple challenges to make it a successful one.

Two top-flight draws either side of a Champions League win over Bayern Munich began to show what impact a relentlessly congested fixture schedule is going to have on Unai Emery’s team. As well as long-term injuries he is waiting on.

Against Bayern it was Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey who were removed from the action prematurely and then against Man United days later Ezri Konsa was forced off the field. John McGinn has also been kept out over the past month with a hamstring issue, potentially leaving the team down to its bare bones in specific areas.

Villa have benefitted from the fact their goalkeeper has not had to make the several thousands of miles round trip to and from South America over the past week so can expect a rested Emi Martinez to show up on Saturday.
