BREAKING NEWS: Legend Ally McCoist announce a sad news over a young player…
In a heartfelt announcement, football legend Ally McCoist has shared the tragic news of the passing of former Rangers defender Marius Žaliūkas at the age of 36. The Lithuanian international, who had a notable career in Scottish football, succumbed to illness, leaving the football community in mourning.
McCoist, who managed Žaliūkas during his tenure at Rangers in 2014, expressed profound sorrow upon hearing the news. Speaking from Hampden Park, he remarked, “I’m personally devastated and everyone here at Hampden is genuinely upset at hearing this. I worked with Marius and it’s terrible news.” He further reflected on the shock of the announcement, stating, “I hadn’t been aware Marius was ill and it’s just horrible to hear. He was such a young man.” McCoist extended his deepest sympathies to Žaliūkas’s family during this difficult time.
Žaliūkas’s wife, Nora, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, writing, “Marius’ heart stopped beating today. He will rest peacefully in eternal silence.” The couple welcomed their first son, also named Marius, earlier this year.
Marius Žaliūkas enjoyed a distinguished career in Scotland, most prominently with Heart of Midlothian (Hearts), where he played over 150 games between 2007 and 2013. He captained the team to Scottish Cup glory in 2012, etching his name into the club’s history. Following his successful stint at Hearts, Žaliūkas had spells with Leeds United and Rangers before retiring from professional football and returning to Lithuania in 2016.
The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) also paid tribute to Žaliūkas, acknowledging his contributions to the national team. In a statement, the LFF noted, “Marius Žaliūkas represented the Lithuanian national team from 2006 to 2016 and scored one goal. Marius inspired countless young footballers, and his contribution to Lithuanian football will never be forgotten.”
