Tim Sherwood has backed Daniel Farke after a controversy as Leeds United beat Sunderland.

The Whites made a comeback against Regis Le Bris’ team in the Championship on Monday (17 February) as chaos ensued in the final minutes of the game.

Pascal Struijk’s late winner at Elland Road took the roof off the stadium, and everyone got involved in the celebrations.

Farke was part of the thrilling celebrations against Sunderland and was subsequently handed a yellow card, which will now see him serve a touchline ban.

The former manager believes it would have been impossible for the German head coach not to react after Struijk completed the Whites’ comeback.

Mike Dean suggested the referee followed the rules by booking Farke, but Sherwood feels the guidelines should be scrapped.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (22 February), the 56-year-old said: “It’s impossible to stop as a manager. There’s not a referee out there who understands what the tension is like standing in that technical area. What it will be like to score a late winner like that. I just think they’ve got to get rid of the rule.”

Leeds to miss Farke v Sheffield United

The Elland Road faithful will travel to Bramall Lane on Monday (24 February) as Leeds look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Sheffield United are second in the Championship, and Farke will evidently need his best players available in the starting lineup to get the three points.

The Whites will be confident going into the game as they have an impressive record against the Blades in their previous three meetings.

Chris Wilder’s team are on a good run, though, and they have won their last four matches in the Championship, scoring seven goals in the process.

The Peacocks will go five points clear in the Championship and cement their position to win the title if they beat Sheffield United.

It remains to be seen how the German manager’s absence from the dugout will affect the West Yorkshire club, but the players should be professional enough to get the three points.

The Elland Road faithful will likely not have any issues with Farke’s celebrations, and all they expect from him is to win automatic promotion this season.
