Chris Sutton feels Celtic star with only five Premiership starts is a ‘dream’ for Brendan Rodgers

Over the weekend, Celtic put five goals past Kilmarnock, as the team bounced back from the abject showing against St Johnstone the week before.

Everyone knows that the title is incoming, it’s just a case of when, as the post-split fixtures suggest that the title should be won at Dundee United.

From the goal machine Daizen Maeda tearing it up to the ever-reliable Callum McGregor, they have all played a part in what is another successful season for the Hoops.

Not forgetting that a possible Treble is also around the corner for Scotland’s most successful club.

 

But whilst those earning regular starts earn their plaudits, following the win over Killie, Chris Sutton wanted to give flowers to those in the background who don’t get mentioned often.

Chris Sutton lauds Anthony Ralston a ‘dream’ player for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic

Alistair Johnston is Celtic’s starting right-back, and despite his drop in form and that poor showing in Perth, he still kept his place against Kilmarnock.

That meant another place on the bench for Anthony Ralston, but with the latter coming off the bench and scoring a well-taken goal, Sutton wanted to laud the back-up fullback and how he is a ‘dream’, as he told Sky Sports Football (13/04/25).

 

Ralston knows the role he is playing, and it’s never easy, but Sutton loves how he is just always ready to give his all for the club.

 

“A good finish from Anthony Ralston there,” said Sutton. “He is a dream, Anthony Ralston. I am not saying that he is happy to sit on the bench.

“But he is always committed when he does come on. A really nice finish, and he likes playing against Kilmarnock.”

Johnston could count himself lucky that he remained in the XI, especially given that he was pretty poor against Rangers also.

 

But Rodgers stuck with Canada international, and it means less time on the pitch for Ralston, who is still earning those calls from Scotland.

 

Despite only earning five Premiership starts, Ralston still has a healthy rating of just under seven from WhoScored, including a Man of the Match display against Motherwell.
