Chris Wilder unleashes promotion rant as Leeds United handed golden chance to pull away from Sheffield United

Sheffield United were thumped 3-0 at home by Hull City on Friday night on what was a great night to be a Leeds United fan. And rather expectedly, Chris Wilder had a lot to say after the game.
Leeds United and Sheffield United have been neck and neck at the top of the Championship table this season. In recent weeks though, Burnley and Sunderland have really upped the ante, with just five points separating the top four right now.
The top four in general are all pulling away with Middlesbrough in 5th now 10 points behind Sunderland in 4th. But the promotion picture could change quite drastically over this next round of fixtures, which started with a heavy Sheffield United defeat.
Chris Wilder’s side saw a three-game winning streak come to a crashing halt on Friday night as his Blades side lost 3-0 at home to Yorkshire rivals Hull City. Daniel Farke’s Leeds beat Norwich City 2-0 in their last outing.
Now a game ahead of Leeds, but still a point behind, Leeds could go four points clear at the top of the table if they beat 3rd place Burnley on Monday night.

Chris Wilder’s promotion verdict after Sheffield United thumped by Hull City
Wilder was forced to field a rather makeshift XI against Hull City with injuries taking over the Blades squad right now. With that in mind, Wilder has played down the severity of his side’s defeat against Hull City. Wilder also pointed out that the race for promotion still has a way to go.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Wilder said: “Everybody is so dramatic about everything. When you win you’re going to do this, and when you lose you’re out of the race. There’s still a lot of football to be played. I’m an experienced manager, I’ve been in this situation before.
“We’ve got to take it on the chin. We’ve got to take the disappointment of losing a home game on a Friday night when with the opportunity of going top of the division. It’s not a mug league. We’ve got no given right to just rock up and win a game of football.”

Sheffield United’s next five fixtures vs Leeds United’s next five fixtures
For Leeds, there’s just 18 games remaining of the season. Every fixture between now and the end of the campaign is crucial for both Leeds and Sheffield United, and the Whites have some really tough Championship games coming up.
Leeds’ next 5 games Sheff Utd’s next 5 games
Burnley (A) Derby County (A)
Cardiff City (H) Portsmouth (H)
Coventry City (A) Middlesbrough (H)
Watford (A) Luton Town (A)
Sunderland (H) Leeds United (H)
Games against Burnley and Sunderland could make or break Leeds’ promotion push. But wins in both could give Farke’s side the points and the confidence needed to get the job done.
Sheffield United meanwhile have a kinder run of fixtures coming up, albeit with some potential banana skins thrown in there and a tough home game against Middlesbrough.
Then on February 24th, Leeds and Sheffield United meet at Bramall Lane for what could be the title-deciding fixture in the Championship.
