DEAL DONE:Oscar Cortes Agree’s permanent Contract With Rangers few minutes ago….

Rangers now regard a permanent move for Oscar Cortes as a “gamble” after his injury woes this season, sources have told Football Insider.

Rangers had held talks with Cortes last summer over making his loan move from Lens permanent, but instead agreed another deal with the Ligue 1 side which included an obligation to buy in summer 2025.

Cortes returned to Ibrox with plenty of fanfare and the number seven shirt on his back, but has picked up two serious injuries, the first of which in August has ruled him out for the majority of Rangers’ season.

As a result, sources have told Football Insider that, having seen Cortes make 15 appearances, including just seven this term, Rangers now see the Colombian’s permanent signing as “a gamble” going forwards.

Rangers are hopeful that Cortes can return to form in the coming weeks and provide an answer to their problems on the left wing for the rest of the season, with a view on justifying his signature this summer.

Rangers to risk Oscar Cortes ‘gamble’ after loan agreement

Rangers fans may have been impressed at what Cortes can do with the ball at his feet since his arrival in January 2024, but the 21-year-old’s inherent injury problems have also caused plenty of ire at Ibrox.

However, with a £4million fee agreed to sign Cortes permanently this summer – the same fee paid by Lens to Millionarios before loaning him to Rangers – their number seven looks certain to stay put.

Both of Cortes’ loan spells have been hugely disrupted by injury at Ibrox, but with a new era on the horizon under 49ers Enterprises’ ownership, he will likely be given a clean slate come season’s end.

Cortes to get benefit of the doubt at new-look Rangers

The 49ers’ imminent arrival at Rangers is set to bring about sweeping changes in Govan, and given their first priority will be appointing a new manager, Cortes’ permanent signing could fly under the radar.

With such an announcement set to wait until after the conclusion of the current campaign, ex-Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that re-hiring Ferguson or Steven Gerrard would be a mistake.
