Georginio Rutter’s Brighton want to raid Leeds United and sign another Elland Road mainstay in January

Georginio Rutter’s Brighton want to raid Leeds United and sign another Elland Road mainstay in January.

Back in the summer, it came somewhat out of the blue when Brighton struck a deal to sign Georginio Rutter from Leeds United – given Leeds had already made three big sales.

Archie Gray had joined Tottenham and Crysencio Summerville followed the teen to London, with a move to West Ham. Glen Kamara joining Rennes saw Leeds double their money, after buying him from Rangers.

So, in the immediate aftermath of a dismal 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough, news emerges that Rutter would be leaving for Brighton. After £29m and 35m bids were rejected, Brighton got a deal done.

They exercised a £40m clause in Rutter’s contract, preventing Leeds from rejecting a move and it saw the Frenchman move to the south coast. He has since had a hand in four goals in 16 Premier League games.

Now, Brighton want another Leeds United player in January

Plenty of Leeds players are generating interest. Duo Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt could go, while Salzburg want to re-sign Max Wober. Elsewhere, Kamara’s Rennes have been linked with Illan Meslier.

Manchester United have also been touted with a move for Meslier in the last few days while Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Tottenham want to reunite Archie Gray with defender Pascal Struijk.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Tottenham are not the only Premier League club interested in signing Struijk. Indeed, Rutter’s Brighton and new Wolves manager Vitor Pereira also want to bring in Struijk.

Why The 49ers might be tempted to cash in on Pascal Struijk

There is absolutely no doubt that Daniel Farke will want to keep Struijk. He has been the club’s captain in the absence of Ethan Ampadu, and his partnership with Joe Rodon is proving to be incredibly effective.

Leeds are also under no pressure to sell having raked in more than £120m in the summer, with Struijk still contracted until June 2027. But, there is one reason that may tempt The 49ers into green-lighting an exit.

Indeed, it is that Leeds only signed Struijk on a free. It is unclear if Ajax were due a compensation fee given he arrived in 2018 at the age of 18, but any sale is likely to be almost entirely profit on Struijk.

The chances are that Leeds would want a fee north of £20m for Struijk, and such a sale would strengthen Leeds further in terms of Financial Fairplay. But The 49ers will know he is crucial to this Leeds side.
