Inter Miami set to lose second star to new MLS side San Diego FC through Re-Entry Draft
Inter Miami could be dealt a double blow by new MLS side San Diego FC as the newcomers have registered their interest in Franco Negri.
Despite it currently being the MLS off-season clubs are moving at a fast pace to bolster and shape their squads ahead of a much anticipated new season.
The Herons host New York City FC in the MLS season opener, but they look likely to be without the services of Negri.
The Argentine has been selected by San Diego FC as part of the 2024 Re-Entry Draft. The side had previously acquired goalkeeper CJ dos Santosduring the Expansion Draft.
Negri can decline offer
While a deal is not official yet it looks likely that Inter Miami could be waving goodbye to another player.
They have recently lost the services of Leo Campana to the New England Revolution and midfielder Diego Gomez joined Premier League side Brighton.
Despite San Diego FC expressing their interest in Negri they are now required to make a genuine offer for the player within seven days.
This offer can still be rejected by the star, this stops players from being moved to other parts of the US without their agreement.
If an offer is rejected that player will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to all clubs.
The Argentine, Negri, has been with Inter Miami since January 2023 but has found playing time very limited. He made just 11 MLS appearances last campaign and chipped in with just a single assist.
Negri’s Inter Miami contract runs out in January 2025, hence his availability on the Re-Entry Draft
