Kasper Schmeichel says Chelsea have a defender with so much potential
Kasper Schmeichel has played with some truly brilliant players during his career.
From Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante to Christian Eriksen and Joachim Andersen, Schmeichel has shared the pitch with some truly elite footballers in his time.
Schmeichel has seen it all – from a Premier League champion all the way down to League Two, and he knows how to spot a proper player.
Speaking on Ben Foster’s Podcast, Schmeichel has been discussing some of his former teammates, and he was full of praise for Wesley Fofana, claiming that the Chelsea defender is a huge talent who has the potential to be whatever he wants.
Schmeichel spoke highly of Fofana.
Fofana has had bad injury luck during his career, but when he does play, he’s a real talent.
Schmeichel believes that Fofana has what it takes to be a star, claiming that he ahs the potential to be whatever he wants to be.
“Wes, what a guy, I love him. He came to us relatively unknown from St Ettiene, but he was like a big kid, very smiley, very chatty, and then he played and you were like ‘oh wow, ok this boy has something.’,” Schmeichel said.
“He’s honestly a great kid, another one with a high workrate as well, no surprise he’s gone on to be what he is and he has the potential to be what he wants to be.”

Schmeichel says that Fofana is a top player and the two men’s record together at Leicester shows just how formidable this pairing was.
Indeed, Schmeichel and Fofana played together at Leicester for two seasons – 2020/21 and 2021/22, and in both of those seasons, The Foxes did very well.
Leicester finished fifth and eighth with Schmeichel and Fofana playing key roles.

Sadly, injuries have hampered his development at Chelsea, but he has been a regular starter this season and at the age of 24 now, he should be ready to kick on and truly establish himself as a key player at a top club.
