Leeds United could rub Chris Wilder’s nose in transfer saga if they revisit huge signing – ViewLeeds are looking to get back to winning ways this week with a home win against Oxford United, their final home game of 2024.

As January looms, plans should already be formulating for Leeds to consider making signings to bolster their squad and wrestle control of top spot from Sheffield United.Club CEO Angus Kinnear’s annual Square Ball appearance back in September shed light on yet another hectic summer with plenty of changes in and out of the club.

Replacing the creativity of Georgi Rutter was a big task for Leeds and one that they didn’t directly achieve, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying with certain targets.

Included in that was Manchester City’s James McAtee, as Kinnear said:

“Two of the other players, looking at the level we were looking at, McAtee at Man City, there was talk he might be released all the way through the window and then Pep [Guardiola] decided to keep him.”Pep Guardiola was the reason for Leeds being unable to land McAtee this season, but since then, he’s had virtually no opportunities to prove why the manager rates him highly.

He’s clocked just 333 minutes this season, 260 of those in the Community Shield and EFL Cup, and is surely desperate for playing time, which Leeds would be able to offer in the new year with the attacking midfield role under Farke tailor-made for McAtee in the same mould as someone like Emi Buendia.

Such an eye-catching signing would be a statement for the rest of the Championship that Leeds want the title and they don’t want it to be close, as they compete with McAtee’s former loan club Sheffield United, last season coached by Chris Wilder. If McAtee was to don Leeds’ strip for the second half of the season, it would be a kick in the teeth for Wilder, watching a former star of his side lining up and likely being the missing piece of the puzzle for the Whites.
