He made his final appearance as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Southampton and after the final whistle, the Paraguay international had his name loudly chanted by the travelling fans.
Confirming the move is imminent and weeks of negotiations, his agent Daniel Campos said: “He’s got a long-term contract which is what he was looking for.
“It’s a big step because he’s had some very good moments at Newcastle but his new club are putting together a very competitive team.”
