Damien Duff is succeeding as a manager in his own right after leaving Celtic.

The Dubliner was a big part of Neil Lennon’s coaching staff having also served under current boss Brendan Rodgers during an 18-month period he described as the “best in his career”.

Since moving away from Parkhead he has enjoyed a stint with the Republic of Ireland national squad with Stephen Kenny and he has grown and developed as a coach and a gaffer ever since.

Duff has been able to pick the brain of numerous top, world-renowned managers including the likes of Jose Mourinho and that has helped him in his first job at Shelbourne.

He recently picked up a manager of the year award nomination in his rookie year.

Damien Duff is a management success since after leaving Celtic

The 45-year-old also helped guide the Irish club into Europe for the first time in 18 years and namechecked Celtic in doing so while Duff lifted the League of Ireland title

So it was no surprise to learn that Duff has no intentions of leaving the League of Ireland for the big lights down south.

Speaking in an interview with the Irish Sun, he explained how he has been sounded out on more than one occasion about jobs in England thanks to his stellar work with Shelbourne.

But he has never entertained the thought leaving.

Now he has revealed the inside story on why that is as he chases success and more accomplishment with the club that gave him his first chance in management alongside “brilliant” staff of people he works with.

Duff was sounded out by a ‘big club’ but said no thanks

“I’ve had a couple. Joey (O’Brien, his assistant) rang me last week, a big club in England rang to see if I was interested and we didn’t even have the conversation.

“We just got back on to Shels. I think that shows my interest. No. Anybody could ring me, anybody. I’m not just saying it for the sake of it or to think, ‘Oh, he’s a good guy’.

“No, I honestly just want to stay here. I’m surrounded by brilliant people.

“Am I going in cranky every day? Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love them. I’ve no plans to go anywhere, believe it or not.

“I’ve got a beautiful wife and kids here, my daughter is still in sixth class. As long as people want me in the league, I will be here. I’m not going anywhere regardless of somebody wanting me.”
