Palace Are Interested In Making A Move For Hughes

Derby County could be set for a transfer windfall if Will Hughes moves to Crystal Palace.

According to the Daily Mail, Palace are interested in making a move for Hughes, currently at Watford having moved to Vicarage Road in 2017.

Hughes swapped the Rams for the Hornets after coming through the academy at Moor Farm and becoming a key player for his hometown club.

Former manager Gary Rowett sold Hughes for £5 million with the potential for the deal to reach £9m if various add-ons were triggered.

Derby have a 15 per cent sell-on clause so could benefit from a transfer this summer.

Many Rams fans thought the fee was low for the potential of Hughes, who was superb during his time at the club.

After bursting on the scene in 2012, Premier League giants Liverpool were being linked but Hughes suffered a serious knee injury in 2015 that set back his progress.

Now after four years and over 100 appearances for Watford later he is set to move on with his contract with the Hornets entering its final year.

Hughes, who played 30 times for Watford last season as they won promotion to the Championship, has not signed a new contract offered to him by his club.

Now Palace, managed by Arsenal and France legend Patrick Vieria, have reportedly opened talks about a move for Hughes.

It is claimed that Hughes is currently training with Watford’s Under-23s until his situation is resolved.

“Will was a very good player for us and gave everything in the last season,” Watford boss Xisco Munoz said about Hughes at a press conference on Friday.

“And now my focus is with the players I have in the dressing room. Sometimes football is football and about him I can say nothing more especially.”
