Rangers ‘hands tied’ in damning transfer verdict as new Ibrox investment mooted

Rangers’ current financial situation is no secret as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen continue to struggle in consecutive transfer windows.
The Belgian manager is still very much in the same squad rebuild he’s been referencing since being appointed at Ibrox in October 2023, and no one can blame him.
Compared to Celtic and Brenden Rodgers, who is able to splash the cash in each transfer window, Clement’s plans have been foiled by the Gers’ player-trading model, which was evident last month.
Both Cyriel Dessers and Ridvan Yilmaz were linked with moves away, but with the relative transfer fees being mentioned, the Light Blues were struggling to make any profit on either.
In the end, the duo remained at Ibrox as the winter transfer window slammed shut on 3 February, with Lille defender Rafael Fernandes the only incoming on a six-month loan deal.

Lyall Cameron is also set to arrive, but having signed a pre-contract agreement, Clement will have to wait until the summer to work with the talented 22-year-old.
Rangers in desperate need of new investment
And speaking about the Gers’ transfer window to the Daily Record [8 February], Scott Burns said: It tells us what we all know – there is no money available.
“They have already spent some of the summer kitty and, unless there is new investment, then Nils Koppen will continue to have his hands tied behind his back.”

Burns is absolutely spot on, but with the chaos going on behind the scenes at Ibrox, and the boardroom continuing to be blasted by fan criticism, it is a much harder feat to achieve.
Player-trading model needs addressing by Ibrox hierarchy
Hamza Igamane completely bucks the trend of the Light Blues’ player-trading model over the years, with the striker now being linked with a big-money move after arriving at Ibrox for £2.5million [The Scottish Sun].

The struggle to offload Yilmaz and Dessers spotlights the current issues affecting the Gers’ current transfer plans, and new investment will only do so much to help.
New funds have been made available in recent seasons, especially during Michael Beale’s torrid reign, but unless the figures in charge know how to spend it, the Gers could end back up in the same position.
