Rangers player ratings v Dundee United: 8/10 named Man of the Match as Gers win at Tannadice

Rangers had to come from behind to show real mettle and prevent another away day disaster in the Scottish Premiership against Dundee United.

The Gers eventually conceded to Sam Dalby after a first-half onslaught from Dundee United which repeatedly forced Jack Butland into action.

But after Mohamed Diomande hauled Rangers back into the match with a stunning effort from the edge of the box, the Ibrox side went on to dominate the second period.

Goals from Robin Propper and Cyriel Dessers ensured a 3-1 victory and here’s how the Rangers team rated against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers player ratings v Dundee United

Jack Butland – 7

Called into action repeatedly in the first half and made a series of strong saves. Helpless with the Dundee United opener.

Still looks a tad rusty since returning to the team but dealt with Dundee United’s pressure on him during set pieces. Had one poor kick out in the first half but otherwise used the ball well.

Had a much quieter second period.

James Tavernier – 7

The Rangers captain is a tireless presence on the right-hand side for the Gers and the Ibrox skipper played a key role in the win over Dundee United.

Popped up in the box for a first half header and had three attempts on goal in total, contributing at both ends of the park for Rangers up against former teammate Glenn Middleton.

James Tavernier also found Mohamed Diomande for the Ivorian to lash in an equaliser and the right-back was an assured presence throughout the match.

Robin Propper – 8

Robin Propper is beginning to find his feet at Rangers and followed up an impressive performance at Manchester United against Dundee United.

Up against it with the physical presence of Sam Dalby but competed throughout and is increasingly important to the Ibrox club’s backline.

Found himself free in the Dundee United box to lash home Rangers’ second goal.

Is stepping into a role as a real leader at Ibrox.

Clinton Nsiala – 6

Clinton Nsiala was recalled by Philippe Clement for the clash at Tannadice and proved his mettle on a physical afternoon at Tannadice.

Got on the ball and tried those creative forward passes but the ball just seemed to bobble up at times and the Frenchman didn’t have quite as much control.

A good experience for the defender who is getting better by the game.

Jefte – 7

Brazilian left-back Jefte has become a feature of Philippe Clement’s young Rangers team and was once again an energetic and key component of the club’s attack.

It doesn’t always come off the talented 20-year-old but Jefte never lets his head goes down and is always heavily involved as Rangers build from the back and move the ball up the park.

A consistent player who is prone to a defensive lapse, Jefte is always up for the fight and will always give 100% for the cause.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Nicolas Raskin is also a feature of Philippe Clement’s Rangers team but this was a less effective match for the combative midfielder, at least going forward.

In the first half in particular the midfielder struggled to get on the ball and offer his characteristic composure but as Rangers grew into the game so did Nico.

Lucky not to score an own goal equaliser but snapped into tackles, made big interceptions and played his part.

Mohamed Diomande – 8 **

Rangers looked like a team without control until Mohamed Diomande popped up and really hauled the squad into the game against Dundee United.

The midfielder showed a real hunger in the first half and got on the ball time and again despite being repeatedly targeted for rough challenges by the United team.

Diomande has this effortless ability to find space in the middle of the pitch and his first-half rocket really laid the foundations of the victory.

Could’ve had a double but hit the post and was quite remarkably shown a red card by Nick Walsh in injury time.

Despite being sent to the monitor, Walsh stuck with the decision to send Diomande off for an innocuous clash where the midfielder was actually fouled.

Nedim Bajrami – 6

Nedim Bajrami had a game of two halves after a disappointing first period which was summed up by a lack of physicality from the Albanian.

The midfielder was too weak for Dundee United’s opener and struggled with the physicality of the Tannadice team, shying away from challenges and struggling to get involved in the game.

But in the second period the midfielder got on the ball and offered much more in an attacking sense. Linked up well and showed a lot of good touches but still has a lot to prove at Rangers.

Ianis Hagi – 7

Ianis Hagi is another who struggled to impose himself on the match at Tannadice but the Rangers midfielder is anything but a quitter.

Improved in the second period with his link up play and ended playing the crucial ball through to Robin Propper for the defender to fire Rangers in front.

Showed some excellent touches towards the end of the first half and fashioned a lot of opportunities down the right hand side of the pitch, finding space with dummies and feints.

Hamza Igamane – 8

Hamza Igamane might not have scored against Dundee United but the Rangers striker showed his quality in other ways at Tannadice.

A real talented player who loves a nutmeg, Igamane showed a number of impressive touches and the Dundee United defence could not cope with him.

Instrumental in Rangers’ forward play, Igamane forced a second half save from Sam Dalby but the best of his play was deeper on the pitch.

Plucking the ball out the sky or evading defenders to free up space on the pitch, Igamane was a level above everyone at Tannadice today and once again impressed for Rangers.

Cyriel Dessers – 7

Cyriel Dessers had a big task today to compete with Dundee United’s physically and the big number nine put himself about throughout the game.

Almost repeated his wonder goal against Manchester United in the first half at Tannadice but forced a save from Jack Walton in the United goal.

Walton once again thwarted the striker when he was played in by Igamane in the second half and the striker also had a goal ruled out for offside.

But Dessers didn’t miss his final opportunity, lashing the ball into the far corner with a stunning left-foot finish.

It’s now five goals in three games for Cyriel Dessers who is a striker on red hot form.

Substitutions

Zak Lovelace – 6: Set up Cyriel Dessers for Rangers third goal.

Paul Neil – N/A: Made a late league debut for Rangers at Tannadice.
