Rangers set to make ‘straightforward’ exit decision on Cyriel Dessers

Rangers cannot afford to sell striker Cyriel Dessers after his recent revival of form at Ibrox, Alasdair Lamont.
Dessers has been continuously linked with a move away from Ibrox all month (Keith Jackson) but a recent return to goals has perhaps changed some perspective.
Having scored what many thought was going to be the point-earning goal at Old Trafford, he made it six strikes in four games at Dundee United, with Lamont impressed.
Speaking via BBC Sport [29 January], Lamont said: “On Sunday, I posed the question in commentary at Tannadice: ‘Can Rangers afford to sell Cyriel Dessers?’ after a remarkable period for the much-maligned striker.
“His goal to clinch the 3-1 victory, like the one he scored at Old Trafford a few days earlier, was magnificent, making it six in four games after his Scottish Cup hat-trick against Fraserburgh and his strike off the bench against Aberdeen.

“So the answer to my question is quite straightforward in my mind. Of course, they can’t.”
Rangers shouldn’t sanction Cyriel Dessers exit
While there are definite frustrations to be had with his performances at Ibrox this season, Dessers’ quality has shone through on several occasions and that could be crucial to their hopes of achieving anything of note this season.
His goal against Manchester United was sublime and his confidence seems to have been boosted as a result of that, despite the fact the Light Blues went on to concede just minutes later.

Hamza Igamane has been the standout player for the Gers this season but Philippe Clement simply cannot afford to form an overreliance on him for the goals, with the pair playing together now.

Especially at this point in the window, will Rangers be able to find a suitable replacement for Dessers with just days remaining in the transfer window? It’s unlikely, although possible.
For now, it makes sense to utilise Dessers and use his strengths to their advantage as they seek success through the means of the Scottish Cup or Europa League.
