Saints turn down Cameron Archer approach

Good Morning. It’s Friday 31st January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road…
Saints turn down Archer approach
Southampton have turned down Leeds United’s loan approach for striker Cameron Archer. Since arriving at St Mary’s five months ago, the £15m capture has amassed a thousand minutes of game time over ten starts – but has found the back of the net just twice! Incredibly, this makes him their joint leading scorer, such are the troubles for the South Coast outfit.
While talkSPORT announced the initial rejection, it appears the door might not be completely closed. Reports suggest Archer himself is open to a move to Elland Road, and has expressed his desire for more game time. Barring a miracle of Biblical proportions, Southampton’s fate has already been decided with or without Cameron Archer!
Could Joseph lead the line if Piroe were to get injured?
Currently, Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have been vying for the starting striker role, with Patrick Bamford battling persistent injury woes on the sidelines. The worry for Leeds is the fragility of their attacking depth. Should Piroe succumb to injury, can the youthful Joseph shoulder the burden of responsibility to lead the line?
Despite flashes of brilliance in pre-season, the 21yo has shown he is nowhere near ready to lead a promotion push. If we were honest with ourselves, he should be sent out on loan this month to develop, build strength and regain his confidence ahead of next season. He has scored just twice in 1132 minutes of game time, and slipped to 20th in Daniel Farke’s roster with a disappointing 6.41 rating.
Bamford’s return from his latest injury has now been set for March, dependent on a perfect recovery. He’s managed but 123 minutes of game time all season, and should not be relied upon in any way, shape of form.
Would new recruits unsettle the ER dressing room
Are Leeds actually that much better than Sheffield Utd and Burnley that they only need to fill two voids in their loan allocations?
Daniel Farke talks of wanting to avoid an unsettled dressing room, but if competition for places are going to disrupt the team spirit, it surely raises alarming question marks regarding his man management skills! His players earn an average of £29,813 a week, or just under £130,000 a month, over three times more than most in the Championship – and as such, are being paid handsomely to take the rough with the smooth!

Joffy has barely kicked a ball for us in 2 years – doubt he’d get a look in, even if everyone else was injured.
Joffy seems to have found his feet at Hull. Watched a few games and when the Tigers mauled the Blades he seemed to ply an influential part.
Him not playing for us was in part due to injury.
When he came from Wigan he showed much promise and ruled the U23’s with Sam Greenwood another player and dead ball specialist rejected by Farke.
Cody also rejected by Farke has found his place at Hull. One has to think that perhaps there is an attitude problem with so many young players leaving Leeds… Charlie Cresswell being another example.

Clearly Burnley and the Blunts both know that we are much better than them as that is the only explanation for the manner in which they approach their games against us . Neither Piroe nor Joseph have scored in ages and yet we are the highest scorers and top of the division . That is because there are plenty of goalscoring options within the team including from midfield. As the main justification for playing Piroe is because he is the best finisher and yet he can’t find a goalscoring opportunity as the starting No.9 either move him or drop him to the bench. DF has won 2 championships and therefore must have a fair idea of the requirements of squad harmony and team spirit and I think it’s more about avoiding bringing in disruptive characters than simply people throwing a strop about more competition. 50 years ago Malcolm Allison brought in the ‘final piece of the jigsaw ‘ when he signed Rodney Marsh when Man. City were leading the old first Division. Great player but City didn’t win and no single signing will guarantee anything ever.

Question then Sean.
Piroe gets injured next match, and with £300m on the line, would you
a) Wheel Bamford onto the pitch
b) Rely on 2 goal Joseph
c) Experiment with someone out of position?
Debut’s rarely go well. Cannon and Breton Diaz are proven at this level. Burnley’s signings are more than a little strange, but I certainly wouldn’t bet against Scott Parker.
If’s why’s and but’s apply to all situations. We could spend 20 million on a player who breaks his leg on the first day in training. The JKA fiasco is still fresh in my mind.
We are not struggling to score, the stats support that. The other teams around us do not share that luxury to the same degree we do. We also have other options who can play nine if anything happened to Piroe, and Joseph was unable to fulfill the role. If we cannot get a 9 in that is no better than all the options available it would just be a pointless signing.
The squad as it stands has more than enough to get promoted and also top the league. On that basis I can understand the clubs reluctance to just place a bum on a seat unless that bum adds value.
I have no doubt they are looking and have been since the window opened, but if the right player is not available to fill the desired positions then why would the club waste money on a punt ?

Don’t need a striker, we need a 10. We don’t have one

a) If Bamford is not fit you can’t play him
b) It was a mistake to let Gelhardt go.
c) play Gnonto or Rama.
If Bamford were fit would you start with him?
Joffy has barely kicked a ball for us in 2 years – doubt he’d get a look in, even if everyone else was injured.
He didn’t even make the bench against a poor Div 2 side in the Cup.
Something is up with Gnonto. Didn’t even come on against Burnley, and playing particularly badly over the past few months.
Corking goal for Ramazani against the Wendies. Was expecting him to start against Norwich. No fancied by Farke, and would be purely experimental if leading the line
