Sean Dyche makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit admission amid Everton transfer speculation.
Sean Dyche has admitted he expects Dominic Calvert-Lewin to remain at Everton beyond the January transfer window.
The England international has been linked with a Goodison Park exit, with several clubs reportedly interested in his services as he enters the final months of his contract with the Toffees [TEAMtalk, 24 October].
While the striker is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, an offer remains on the table and Blues boss Dyche thinks his side would be better off keeping him on Merseyside than cashing in, in the new year.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo on Saturday (26 October) he said: “I think the bigger prize in this case is Premier League football for Everton Football Club. You know when I got in it was like, ‘you need to safeguard what we’re doing’. So that’s the number one priority.
“Along that journey and timeline, we’ve had to obviously bring money in, that’s been quite apparent, spend less and bring more in. Lower the wages of course.
“But to be giving players away at any cost because you need some money, fortunately, we’ve never been pushed that far and that is still the same now.
“We can still make decisions on situations and I can’t see anything other than him being [here], certainly until the end of his contract and then hopefully beyond. We’ll see.”
Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton and Goodison Park?
Everton and Dyche’s transfer activity in January will likely be dependent on where the Blues sit in the Premier League table.
If the Toffees have already managed to put a reasonable gap between themselves and the relegation zone by that stage of the campaign, they may well feel as though they don’t need to spend heavily.
Furthermore, if safety is all but secured, they could be more willing to sanction high-profile exits if the price is right. Whether or not Calvert-Lewin is sold will depend on where the Toffees sit in the table and what sort of offers arrive at Goodison.
