What the SFA have said about Celtic’s disallowed goal vs Hibs

Celtic’s disallowed goal against Hibs has caused all sorts of controversy this weekend.
Hibs dealt Celtic their second defeat of the season after VAR adjudged Hoops hero, Daizen Maeda’s goal illegal after the video referee said Alistair Johnston failed to stop the ball from crossing Hibs’ byeline.
The decision cost the Bhoys three points in their defence of the title and enraged Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers who confronted the match officials as soon as the final whistle had blown.
Rodgers was livid at VAR costing Celtic at Easter Road as he claimed that the officials ‘guessed’ the decision.
Since then, however, the SFA have clarified their stance and it will not go down well with the Celtic supporters.

SFA share how VAR checked Celtic’s disallowed goal vs Hibs
Premier Sports’ Emma Dodds was speaking after the game as Neil Lennon, Marvin Bartley and Alan Hutton analysed the decision when the presenter shared what the SFA said about how the VAR check was done.
Dodds said on Premier Sports, “The SFA have said that the guidance on this disallowed goal, is that the VAR check was from the eighteen-yard line camera, which is this one [shown in the footage below], and it showed that the ball had crossed the byline. so in their opinion, this is concluded.”
“If I was Brendan [Rodgers], I’d be raging… I’m still not convinced that the whole of the ball has gone over the line.” 🗣️

SFA’s answer raised more questions about Celtic’s disallowed Hibs goal
It seems that the SFA’s explanation of the match officials’ decision has raised more questions than it has answered.
Even looking at the angle VAR used it is still not conclusive that the ball had actually crossed the Celtic line.
Hutton said that even at that angle, it’s still ‘hard to see’ the full ball. Bartley conceded that ‘some of the ball’ was out the pitch but couldn’t say for definite if the full ball was out.
Lennon said the proof the SFA have used is ‘inconclusive’. So it seems confusion still reigns over whether or not VAR got this call correct.
