Keith Jackson believes Rangers will have a “serious problem” against Lyon if they perform like they did in the 1-0 win against Hibernian.

Philippe Clement’s men welcome the Ligue 1 side to Ibrox on Thursday 3 October, looking to follow up the 2-0 win against Malmo.

It wasn’t the best warm-up for that Europa League tie though, as the Bears struggled to three points against Hibs, and were lucky to get them.

Speaking on the Daily Records Hotline Live (29 September), Jackson shared his thoughts on what he saw.

“He’s [Clement] got a bit more time now to put things in place for Lyon on Thursday,” he said.

“That’s going to be potentially the most difficult match they’ve faced this season, whether or not you factor in the Old Firm game at Celtic Park which was a tough afternoon for them, this has the potential to be every bit as difficult.

“If today’s Rangers [turn up against Lyon] they’ve got a serious problem, but, if it’s the Rangers we saw against Malmo the other night, they’ve got a chance”.

Rangers need to continue their winning ways

Rangers haven’t had the best season so far but their recent games have seen their fortunes turn around.

The Gers finally seem to be finding their feet and the pressure around the future of Clement seems to have cooled down after John Gilligan backed him publically on Sky Sports (24 September).

There’s no denying that the main goal for the 2024/25 season will have been to try and compete for the Scottish Premiership title.

Although their start to the season left a lot to be desired, should their recent run of form manage to continue, there’s no reason why the Ibrox outfit can’t still be deemed as title contenders, much like Hugh Keevins suggested.
