Update on Philippe Clement’s future and whether he will be in charge for Rangers’ next game

Patrick Stewart gave Philippe Clement his backing after taking the Rangers CEO job – but only for the time being.
Many thought that the embarrassment of defeat to lower league opposition might change that after yesterday’s Queen’s Park horror show.
A significant portion of Rangers fans are turning on Clement again – raging at the latest poor result after a list of them already this season.
The Gers boss has no plans to quit and told how he plans to get supporters back on side – by winning games again.
But the manager’s future will continue to be debated until these results are stamped out.
Ricky Foster doesn’t think Clement will be sacked yet and explained why.
And Alan Hutton agreed as he gave his honest take on the whole situation.

‘Business as usual’ for Clement and Rangers
With Hearts at Tynecastle to come on Sunday, Sky Sports News are reporting that Clement will still be in the dugout for that one.
MORE RANGERS STORIES
It is claimed it is ‘business as usual’ at Ibrox for now while there is a ‘root and branch’ review of the football department going on currently.
Patrick Stewart, early into his tenure as CEO, said the club were set to give the Belgian time to keep improving things.
“There’s been a lot of talk about results, and there’s been a lot of talk about the manager, and I know that the spotlight is on Fraser [Thornton] and myself, but particularly on me,” Stewart says. “That’s the job, I’m okay with that.
“I need to make some tough decisions. It comes with the role, but I am committed to making the right ones for Rangers, not just the popular ones. So cutting to the chase, we are backing Philippe at this time as a board.

“I need to make some tough decisions. It comes with the role, but I am committed to making the right ones for Rangers, not just the popular ones. So cutting to the chase, we are backing Philippe at this time as a board.
“It’s not effective at a lot of football clubs where there’s constant change of manager. What I do need to do, and what the board are supporting me with, is uncovering the underlying issues and addressing those.
“And there’s been quite a lot of supporters’ comments, and one that particularly jumped out at me was, you know, some supporters’ comments are, we want to change a manager.
“I think others are, look, this isn’t just about the manager. It’s more about what’s going on at the football club. Because there’s been several years where we’ve been underperforming, and there’s something deeper rooted here, and I agree with that.
“So I think that’s what we need to do, we need to look beneath the surface.”
What Clement said about his own future
“No, totally not,” said Clement when asked if he would resign following defeat to Queen’s Park.
“We know, again, we had these talks the last couple of months about building up something new.
“A few weeks ago or the last weeks, everybody says yes, everybody sees the evolution this club is making.
“So again, out of the emotion, taking decisions and turning everything around, I don’t think this is what this club needs.
“I understand that the fans are in emotions now. I know a lot of fans were on my side three hours ago. I know, I know that.
“So now are the emotions of this game and I totally understand that because I’m also angry and frustrated about that, about this result and going out of the Cup because it was one of our big goals and our shortest chance to go to win a trophy this season. We all know that.
“That’s probably also one of the reasons that the team was nervous in the second half because they wanted that so much because they know how important it is for the club.”
