Leeds only have a handful of days left in the January window to secure any lingering transfer deals that the Daniel Farke is looking for, which surely includes a striker.

Patrick Bamford being constantly out of the side this season means Farke only has two senior options to turn to, both have their benefits but also have their noticeable drawbacks too.

Leeds table loan offer to sign Cameron Archer from Southampton

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook reported on Thursday morning that Leeds had tabled an offer to sign Southampton striker Cameron Archer on loan.

The offer that Leeds placed was turned down by the Premier League’s bottom club, but it was also claimed elsewhere that the player himself was open to the move.

So far this season, Archer has started 10 out of the Saints’ 23 top flight fixtures this season, scoring twice.

Southampton’s Ivan Juric shares Cameron Archer transfer update

This weekend could be a vital one in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League, as Ipswich Town host Southampton, and if the Saints want to give themselves a fighting chance of beating Derby County’s points record and getting closer to survival, a win at Portman Road is crucial.

With that, Saints boss Ivan Juric will be calling upon his forwards to deliver in the final third, which may include Archer, as he previewed the match with the 23-year-old firmly in his plans for the time being (via the Daily Echo):

“I think Cameron is a very good player and a great guy. We changed the style of the game a little bit and maybe he suffered a little bit.

“But he’s working really hard to understand what I want from him. We will see in these days. I don’t think something will happen. He will stay with us and we will work with him.

“There are some players that they like one style, others (styles) a little bit less. But like I said, he wants to improve.

“He wants to be a complete player, that he can do both things, (play in) lots of styles of play.

“He’s working hard and now this is the situation. You never know in football what can happen, but at this moment, he’s with us.”

Leeds need to take Archer matter out of Juric’s hands with good offer

A head coach like Juric is going to say that Archer is part of his plans, but Leeds need to be making an offer to Southampton that is worthy of them taking the decision out of Juric’s hands.

Archer is that good at Championship level that he could end up being the difference between us battling it out for top spot, and breaking clear in the coming months.

He’s got exactly the skillset we need up front to succeed, and the pressure is now on the 49ers to make sure they react well to this first setback.
